I have now reconnected the light and replaced the cover, but importantly left the metal plate that covers the circuit board off. Seems that these drives have an internal setting that allows the drives to "sleep" after a specified period of inactivity - this is set to 15 minutes by default. Case in point is that its much smaller than those premade Ext. I am not worried about the things stored in the hard disk, but I have to move the files in my laptop, so that it wouldn't crowded my laptop disk drive.
